SPEAKERS Panel at SxSW

INTO DUST – What happens when our taps run dry?

Presented by Grain Media at SXSW Online 2021, Orlando von Einsiedel will be joined by Aquila Ismail, Poul Due Jensen and Soumya Balasumbramanya as they discuss the value of water and how through innovation and collaboration across disciplines that include water experts, filmmakers, engineers and communities, we have a chance to address water insecurity around the world.

INTO DUST tells the true story of Perween Rahman, an activist who stood up to Karachi’s water mafia, and was murdered. The bigger backdrop to the film is the global water crisis, and its impact on food, health, energy, governance and political stability around the world. With water being described as the ‘new petroleum’, this is a crisis that affects everyone. This lively discussion will hear from the Oscar-winning director of the film; Perween Rahman’s sister, herself a community advocate; the CEO of the largest global pump manufacturing company; and an economist working on issues of water, food, energy and development. Each of them looks at water from a variety of angles, and will explore how it will take a multitude of voices and skill sets working together, to tackle water insecurity.

This pre-recorded conversation will be featured under the SXSW A New Urgency programming theme and is included in a Conference of over 230 panels that include top-level speakers from notable companies, universities, and creative industries.   South by SouthWest (SXSW) festival is a highly regarded in-person annual festival that takes place in Austin, Texas. This year it will be virtual, and offerings will include conference keynotes and sessions, film screenings, music showcases, networking, and exhibitions from March 16–20, 2021.
